Description

From Pastor Mike's Good Morning message in the bulletin:

“Two men who lived in a small village got into a terrible dispute that they could not resolve. So they decided to talk to the town sage. The first man went to the sage's home and told his version of what happened. When he finished, the sage said, "You're absolutely right." The next night, the second man called on the sage and told his side of the story. The sage responded, "You're absolutely right." Afterward, the sage's wife scolded her husband. "Those men told you two different stories and you told them they were absolutely right. That's impossible -- they can't both be absolutely right." The sage turned to his wife and said, "You're absolutely right."”

While this is humorous story, there are several great truths in it. First, conflict is inevitable when truth is proclaimed. Second, truth and untruth cannot coexist. Finally sacrificing truth for the sake of peace will always result in greater conflict.

When Peter and John proclaimed the truth of Jesus Christ, the rulers and elders attempted to quiet them with threats of punishment. It takes courage to stand firm for truth in the face of treats. We cannot stand without the presence and infilling of the Holy Spirit to sustain us. But, when we are willing to stand regardless of consequences, the Holy Spirit always shows up to provide the needed strength and endurance we need. He says, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” He is our strength and shield in the conflict.
