From Pastor Mike's Good Morning message in the bulletin:

Have you considered that God’s plan for you is to create in you a masterpiece fit for heaven? Sometimes I wonder, if we don’t do a disservice when we lead people to Jesus without telling them that following rebirth is a process of gaining maturity. And, gaining maturity is a process of spiritual conditioning in the same way an athlete prepares for competition.

We are told that when John Huss was arrested and informed that he would be burned to death for his faith, he purposely practiced holding his hand over fire to prepare for his final test. He burned himself in preparation. He wanted to be faithful to the end.

Now I’m not advocating that you go out and hold your hand over a campfire to get used to the heat. But it is important that every believer knows that part of becoming God’s masterpiece is spiritual conditioning. That conditioning involves discipline and challenges. Your challenges are the trials and hardships of life. Paul put it this way, “And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.” Colossians 1:10-12 In this way you become a masterpiece fit for heaven.
